Wall Mixers FAQs

Q. What is a Wall Mixer?

A wall mixer is a faucet that is mounted on the wall. Specifically, it combines incoming hot and cold water and diverts it to either the front spout or toward the shower head through a lever leg. In addition, it allows temperature control through a lever or knob by adjusting the flow of hot and cold water accordingly.

Q. What are the benefits of a Wall Mixer?

  • Temperature Control: Easy mixing of water to achieve the desired temperature.
  • Multifunctioning: It performs six functions in one product: providing hot water, cold water, and mixed water either to the front spout or to the shower head. Thus, providing three types of water to two types of outputs.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Wall mixers offer a sleek, minimalist look that complements modern bathroom designs. By mounting the mixer on the wall, the bathroom’s surface area remains uncluttered, creating a clean and spacious appearance.

Q. How does a wall Mixer work?

Initially, hot and cold water enters from the respective adjustable legs and into the wall mixer. From there, the flow of each side is controlled by using a ceramic cartridge or two brass cartridges. For a ceramic cartridge, the flow of hot and cold water can be controlled by simply opening up the lever handle and moving it towards the left or right. Conversely, for brass cartridges, the flow of hot and cold water can be controlled by simply opening the respective cartridges using knobs. Subsequently, the outflow from the cartridge/s is then diverted either towards the front spout or towards the shower head using a diverter cartridge, which controls the direction of the flow.

Q. What causes low pressure of water in Wall Mixers?

  • The quality of water flowing through the faucets greatly affects the pressure with time. The particles in water, along with the salts, tend to accumulate and block the aerator. As the area for water to flow through the aerator reduces, the flow rate decreases. It then appears to the user that the pressure of water has become low.
  • Wall mixers have seal rings in them. If the installation of wall mixers is done improperly these rings could restrict the flow by blocking the flow. The various areas include seal rings between wall mixer and adjustable wall legs (Goday), wall mixer and brass lever leg, and shower rod and t-arm.
  • The salts and other particles in water can also restrict the flow through the diverter cartridge, which controls the direction of the flow either towards the front spout or towards the shower head.
  • Accumulation of salts blocks the pores of the shower head causing the low flow of water through the head.

Q. What is the difference between traditional wall mixers and concealed wall mixers?

The main difference lies in their fitting and appearance. Specifically, traditional wall mixers feature the mixing body and spout as a single unit, with the entire product exposed. In contrast, concealed wall mixers have components hidden inside the wall, leaving only the mixing controls and spouts exposed.

Q. How to replace the shower head?

Almost all shower heads have a standard thread in Pakistan: ½ inch BSP. . To begin, remove the faulty shower head by turning it anti-clockwise. Then, install the new shower head by properly placing the seal ring and then turning it clockwise. Afterward, check the water flow. If water leaks from the threads, use Teflon tape.

Q. What should I do if I notice a leak in wall mixers?

It is best practice to turn off the water supply to the leaked fittings. Water dripping can damage the tiles and marble in bathrooms. Afterward, locate the leak. It can be in any one of the three areas:

  • From the connection between the body and the piping system
  • From the 35mm ceramic cartridge
  • From the flow-diverting brass cartridge
  • From the showerhead
  • From the outlet

Here is what you can do to resolve the issues:

First Case: check the connections between the wall body goda and piping system. Replace the washers and tighten the nut

Second Case: remove the brass lever handle and tighten the check-nut or replace the O-ring of the 35mm ceramic cartridge. If either doesn’t work, replace the cartridge

Third Case: remove the brass knob and tighten the brass cartridge or replace its O-rings. If either doesn’t work, replace the cartridge

Fourth Case: lower the lever handle which closes the 35mm ceramic cartridge. If the leak doesn’t stop, then replace the cartridge.

Fifth Case: lower the lever handle which closes the 35mm ceramic cartridge. If the leak doesn’t stop, then replace the cartridge.
